Today’s post has a video at the end, slightly different to what I usually do, but you will see why when you get to the bottom.
Today’s post is something I have put off all day, ok, so it isn’t really, but that’s how procrastination starts. Putting things off for a short while, which things just get in the way, and before you know, you haven’t done it for weeks. Then it feels ten times harder to do.
As you go through these ideas, be aware they are done a certain way to help you and your brain change. Do as stated, it works…..
1. Make a decision to do something about it
A decision is the exact opposite of procrastination. Just like right and left, up and down, hot and cold, there’s procrastinate and decide.
I would advise to become more decisive, get the book Think and Grow Rich and read the chapter on decision every day for 30 days. This will get you on the track, helping you act quickly on your ideas.
2. Now Write it out.
Make time to do this process properly, then follow these steps
a) Get a sheet of paper and write out how you currently feel about what you’re procrastinating about. Go into detail on how you procrastinate—what you do, when you do it, etc.
b) Get a second sheet and ask yourself, “What is the opposite of that?” On the top of the page, write “I am happy and grateful now that…” and then write out detailed statements that are the opposite of what you wrote on the first sheet. When you are finished, destroy the first sheet of paper, maybe burn it or cut it up into small pieces.
c) Read and rewrite what you wrote on the second sheet every day for a minimum of 30 days. This is done until you notice that you’re no longer procrastinating.
3. Break it into manageable parts.
Sometimes we will all procrastinate. It’s human nature. If you don’t understand this part of human nature. We often do procrastinate because we don’t know where to begin. Break large projects into milestones, and then into small, actionable steps.
4. Relax your mind.
5. Being perfect is far from Perfect.
Perfection is one of the biggest reasons we don’t do things, It’s an illusion that slows you down and prevents you from reaching your goal. Just do what you can now, you can always improve on it later.
Find an accountability partner so you push each other, which can help each other commit to and follow through the bad days, when you just can’t be bothered, moving you towards your goals and dreams.
7. Take Another look.
Revisit and think on what you’re doing. Be honest. Maybe you’re putting it off because it’s something someone else wants you to do, and it’s not at all important to you. If it’s not helping you get your goals, stop wasting energy on it and remove it from your list.
8. Put it on your gratitude list.
Tomorrow morning, write down how grateful you are that you started the project and it’s going well. Write it as if it’s happening now and you’ve achieved it. Being grateful for things that you want and expect to happen makes your brain plan for it, expecting success. It works…
9. Reward yourself.
When you succeed with something, reward yourself. Take a coffee or tea break, go to a movie or a meal at a restaurant. Do something that will make you feel good. Beating procrastination needs rewards.
10. Change your attitude.
Procrastination stops you from winning. Even the smallest change in your attitude can make a big difference in your results. Ask yourself, “What do I want to create for my life?” Procrastination can’t survive in an environment like that.
